The Ridge Apartments were built in 1986 by developers Wendell Reugh and Harlan Douglason, on the site of the old Cowles mansion. The mansion grounds were originally landscaped by the famous Olmsted brothers, who also designed NYC's Central Park as well as many Spokane treasures such as Manito and High Bridge Parks. If you look closely, remnants of the old lilac garden can still be detected below Building D. The Cowles even had a ski hill. Those were the glory days in Browne's Addition.
In 2005 Reugh sold the apartment complex to HOF-Portage Properties, LLC, who converted the 136 unit complex to condominiums. HOF is referred to as the "Declarant" in our governing documents.
The Ridge Condominium Owners Association took over in July of 2007. We are an active and diverse community, with an elected volunteer Board composed of 4 officers and 3 directors.
In 2019 Browne's Addition was designated a Historic District, ensuring that the neighborhood charm will be preserved.
